A. Use of Electronic Devices

During School Day and After-School Programs

  • Electronic devices cannot be used or turned on during the school day or on school trips, unless a teacher says it’s okay.
  • Electronic devices also cannot be used during after-school programs, unless supervised by school staff.

During State Tests and Practice Tests

  • No electronic devices are allowed in the classroom when state tests or practice tests are being given. It’s best to leave devices at home on testing days.
  • If students bring devices, they will be collected and kept at school. Students can get their devices back at the end of the testing day.

During School Field Trips

  • Electronic devices cannot be used during school field trips unless a teacher gives permission.

B. Confiscation

  • If a student uses an electronic device inappropriately, a school staff member may take it away. How the device is returned will depend on the situation. Possible actions include:
    • A warning to stop using the device.
    • Taking the device and returning it at the end of the school day.
    • Taking the device and returning it to a parent after a meeting.
    • Taking the device and returning it to a parent after a student agrees to a behavior plan.
    • Taking away the privilege of bringing the device to school.

C. Discipline

  • Students who break any rules regarding electronic devices will face consequences according to the school’s discipline code and policies.

D. Lost or Stolen Devices

  • Students are responsible for their electronic devices and should keep them safe in their backpacks or pockets.

PS 64 is not responsible for any electronic devices that are lost, damaged, or stolen.

This policy was created by the PS 64Q administration and the PS 64Q School Leadership Team.
