About Magnet

THEME: Magnet School of Leadership and Social Justice Activism.

PS 64Q is excited to be part of the NYCDOE Inter-District Federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program! As the Magnet School of Leadership and Social Justice Activism, we will use the funding to help our students learn by exploring real-life problems in their community. This support will allow us to create more inquiry-based learning opportunities, helping students understand important educational standards while making a difference.

Magnet School Information

What Are Magnet Schools?

Magnet Schools are public schools that students can choose to attend. These schools are creative and innovative, welcoming students from any area. Each Magnet School has a special theme that makes it different from other schools. A Magnet education offers unique programs designed to match the school’s theme, with activities that encourage students to do their best both in school and in the community. Magnet schools include interesting themes in all subjects and activities. They aim to attract students from all backgrounds who want a specialized learning experience.

What Does Magnet Education Offer?

Magnet Schools in New York City receive extra funding from the federal government to create exciting and themed lessons, build partnerships for learning, and encourage families and communities to get involved. This funding helps enhance academic activities by providing resources for school trips, supplies, special programs, and professional development for teachers, as well as workshops for parents. Magnet Schools offer challenging and engaging learning experiences that inspire students to succeed. They focus on project-based learning and connect lessons to real-world situations. A Magnet Education also looks after students' social, emotional, and mental well-being, helping them become lifelong learners and future leaders.
