iPad Troubleshooting

  1. Go to Settings, the scroll down to General
  2. Click on Reset, then click on Reset Network Settings
  3. Wait for the iPad to turn back on
  4. Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode
  5. Cancel all applications that are gray/black by pressing your finger down on the application.  A message will appear that says "Cancel Download." If you do not see that message, you are not pressing hard enough.  Make sure you check that the applications are group together and cancel those as well.
  6. When you have canceled all applications, go to Settings and turn off Airplane Mode.
  7. In Settings, scroll down to iTunes and App Store
  8. Under Cellular Data, turn on automatic downloads, then click on App Downloads.  Click Always Allow.
  9. Wait for all apps to re-download.  This could take several hours.
  10. If they don't all re-download, turn on Airplane Mode again for 20 seconds and then turn it off.
  11. Repeat steps if necessary.

Free and Low-Cost Internet Options

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched a short-term Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program, which provides broadband internet service for eligible New York City households, at a reduced cost, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All families with a student enrolled in a DOE school or program are eligible for this benefit. Families can confirm their eligibility, apply for the program, and find participating broadband providers via the USAC website(Open external link). There are two types of benefits available to eligible households:

  • Monthly Benefit: A discount of up to $50/month for broadband service, equipment, and device rentals; or
  • One-time Device Discount: A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of $10 - $50), where available.
